Sunnyvale Adopts New Public Engagement Platform
Local government diversifies engagement through technology
The Town of Sunnyvale is excited to announce the launch of Polco, an innovative online engagement platform that lets community members provide direct input to our local decision-making process regarding the policies and programs.
As part of this launch, Sunnyvale’s leadership wants the public’s insight on The National Community Survey, also called The NCS. Specifically, the Town Council wants to know what they can do to work toward a better, safer community that also provides its residents with the amenities they value.
“Sunnyvale is a growing community with so many opportunities before us,” said Mayor Saji George. “Your responses to this first survey and later follow-up surveys will help us set priorities for our Town.”
The Mayor says resident participation in these feedback opportunities, will enable Town leadership to develop better policies, initiatives, and community programs.
In May, Sunnyvale residents should receive an invitation to participate in an initial survey in the mail. That invitation will include instructions about how to register and take the survey. Once they have answered the survey questions, residents provide their email address and ZIP code. This ensures the Town only hears from each person once. It also collects information on the general area where respondents live.
This platform will also allow Town officials to post questions directly to residents on Polco’s app and website, where participants answer and comment on the issues. Polco makes public participation easier for residents to get involved, so more voices are heard. Residents who register on the Polco can opt to receive notifications of any future survey or polling efforts Sunnyvale conducts.
Responses are anonymous, and personal information is securely stored by our survey host, Polco. Polco is committed to a strict privacy policy—they only share anonymous, combined results. Participants’ individual data and votes are never shared.
